Ever since Gerber baby products first-named Ann Turner Cook as their official Gerber baby in 1928, they’ve been a household name. Believe it or not, the first Gerber baby is now 93 years old and she made the iconic baby food so poplar that she inspired the company to search for a new Gerber baby every year, and it’s a tradition that many people look forward to. For the last decade, the company holds an annual online contest where parents can submit their children’s photos for consideration. Gerber chooses one very lucky adorable baby to represent them throughout the year. 2020’s Gerber baby is super special in more ways than one.
For the first time ever, Gerber has chosen an adopted baby as Gerber’s special baby. Meet one-year-0ld Magnolia Earl, the first Gerber spokesbaby who is an adopted baby. A statement from the company says that “At Gerber, we have always recognized that every baby is a Gerber baby. In the 10 years, we have hosted Photo Search, we have been proud to feature babies of diverse backgrounds. This year is no exception by featuring Magnolia, our first adopted Gerber Spokesbaby.” Magnolia follows 18-month-old Lucas Warren, who was the first Gerber baby who has Down syndrome. For a year, his sweet face has graced the company’s products. Magnolia was chosen out of 327,000 submissions.

Magnolia’s mom, Courtney Earl, is super excited. She says it’s “incredible” and feels that it means that when people see her family and other families with adopted children, they won’t be inclined to question the family just because they don’t “necessarily match.” Magnolia’s dad, Russell, adds that “Mommy always says a family is built on love. We may all look different, but we’re one family.” Courtney sees this as a way to shed light on the diverse and beautiful ways that families are made.

Magnolia has two older sisters who were also adopted. Whitney is 12 years old and Charlotte is eight years old. Here’s a news video with more information about the contest and Magnolia. We just love that name, by the way!
