This is something I’ve written about before, but I keep writing about it because I keep seeing it. It’s tiring to constantly see women judging other women, but we see it all the time. Why do we do this? Here’s the deal. Very few women have an easy life, at least not the typical woman who is working, managing a home, raising a family, and doing it all in high heels. Well, we don’t all wear high heels, but that’s sort of what society expects of us: to be amazing at everything we do and to look fabulous while doing it. As women, we have a lot on our shoulders, and it’s only in recent years that women have a little bit of an easier life in some ways. So let’s support each other. Life is a lot of work and we’re all doing the best we can. Enjoy this little fable below. It makes a good point.
A young couple moves into a new neighborhood. The next morning while they are eating breakfast, the young woman sees her neighbor hanging the wash outside.
“That laundry is not very clean; she doesn’t know how to wash correctly. Perhaps she needs better laundry soap.”
Her husband looks on, remaining silent. Every time the neighbor hangs her wash to dry, the young woman makes the same comments.
A month later, the woman is surprised to see a nice clean wash on the line and says to her husband:
“Look, she’s finally learned how to wash correctly. I wonder who taught her this? ”
The husband replies, “I got up early this morning and cleaned our windows.”
And so it is with life… What we see when watching others depends on the clarity of the window through which we look.
