Keith Burkett was a 12-year-old boy from Stow, Ohio, who tragically passed away after a six-year battle against a rare type of childhood cancer. Just days before, he was right by the side of his mom, Taylor Woodard, when she and her husband Adam married in their Living room.
For Keith, walking his mom down the aisle would turn out to be his final wish.
While sharing photos of the big event on the Facebook page in Keith’s honor called Kourageous Keith, Taylor described it as “the most bittersweet, heartbreaking, emotional day” she’s ever known.
But, she said her “baby boy” was able to walk her down the aisle “we got to honor his final wish.”
In an emotion-filled video posted on Facebook, we see Keith being wheeled down the wedding aisle ahead of his mom, who stops to give him a gentle kiss on the head when she reaches the alter.
Sadly, less than a week following the wedding, the grieving mom shared on the page that Keith had quietly passed away.
Within just a few hours, over 1,000 people commented to share their heartfelt condolences for Taylor and her family.
Keith initially started showing symptoms when he was only five. Doctors diagnosed him with undifferentiated soft tissue sarcoma in 2012.
The boy would undergo many rounds of aggressive chemo treatment. However, his doctors discovered cancer had spread to his brain, left shoulder, liver, pelvis, and spine last spring.
Keith would end up capturing the hearts of thousands of supporters as he bravely fought for his life. In December, his entire community came together to give him the gift of an early Christmas.
Doctors didn’t think he would see the end of 2021, so his mom wanted him to enjoy one last holiday celebration.
Taylor turned the home into a winter wonderland during September, months before most people would start putting up Christmas decorations.
Then neighbors soon began catching the Christmas spirit and hanging up their festive decorations.
The people of Stow would eventually come together to give Keith a Christmas he’d never forget by singing carols, decorating their homes, and even dressing up as Santa Claus.
Keith even got to ride on a fire truck in a procession with over 100 cars decorated for Christmas. The town’s mayor even awarded the young boy was even awarded a medal for bravery.
