If you’ve been looking at your already huge 90-inch TV and wishing you could just go a little bigger, you’re in luck. If you’ve got the room for it in your living room (or bedroom???) and the money to pay for it, you can now be the proud owner of a 219-inch micro LED television from Samsung. Meet “The Wall,” Samsung’s fabulous new giant-screen TV that uses MicroLED technology. If you need help with the math (I did), this bad boy stands a whopping 24 feet tall. For a visual, that’s more than two Shaquille O’Neals standing on top of each other. That’s a big TV, folks. I’m not great about staying on top of technology, so my husband explained MicroLED to me. MicroLED is the first new technology to come out in more than ten years.
It actually has more in common with OLED technology than it does with LCD technology, apparently. MicroLED delivers intense bright colors and perfect blacks because it has millions of tiny LEDs that directly reproduce the image. The resulting picture is even sharper than OLED, and it doesn’t have the same issue of the danger of burn-in that the older tech has. Just imagine watching your favorite movies on this. Or YouTube videos. And for gamers, this would be a dream. The whole neighborhood would be at your house.
You probably won’t be able to find this monster of a TV at Walmart or Target anytime in the near future, but Samsung is selling both commercial models and luxury residential models of “The Wall.” They currently cost hundreds of thousands of dollars. Luckily, that price includes installation. Think about it, though. Could you even get this TV into your home? Keep in mind, and it’s as tall as two Shaqs standing on top of each other. I don’t know about you guys, but this wouldn’t even fit in my doors. I guess we’d have to cut the roof off to get it in, or maybe take out a wall. At any rate, the cost to get it into an average home may be as pricey as the TV itself. But as my husband said, if someone loves TV enough to buy one of these, they’d probably build their house around their TV.
Do I want “The Wall”? Yes, I do. I don’t even watch a lot of TV, but I do enjoy technology and love having the latest in tech gadgets and devices. I guess you could say it’s my one weakness. However, this is a dream that will live only in my imagination. I won’t be able to afford “The Wall” in this lifetime. Watch the video below for a full overview of “The Wall.”
