It seems that more and more often, we are hearing about women who give birth to a child with Down syndrome. Even though that may be true, it is still a very rare occurrence. The same can be said for twins.
Having identical twins is really a miracle and it is something that very few women are able to experience in their life. Perhaps that is why one mother, Savannah Combs was so excited when she found out she was pregnant with twins. At 23 years old, she was going to become the mother of two children.
Eventually, they learned that both of the twins had down syndrome. This left Savannah and Justin, her husband, feeling very emotional. They wondered how they were going to handle having two children with Down syndrome and he also wondered what others would feel.
Of course, the emotions eventually took on a different look when she called her two little girls her ‘little gems’. She also talked about her journey and it was posted on the Internet on social media.
In one of the videos that were posted, Savannah talked about how doctors informed her that it would be better if they aborted the children. They didn’t think that the children would make it. After deciding to keep them, she gave them the chance that they deserved.
Savannah was alone when she learned that her children had down syndrome. Her husband was at boot camp at the time. When she was 29 weeks pregnant, she went to the hospital and gave birth to two girls, Kennadi Rue and Mckenli Ackerman.
Because they were about two months early, they had to spend some time in the NICU but eventually, they were able to come home. They are referred to as mono di twins, which means that they grew in their own sac of amniotic fluid. At the same time, they also shared a single placenta so they were identical.
You never know what life is going to toss your way. For Savannah and her husband, it came in the form of a beautiful set of twins and they couldn’t be happier.
