For anyone who’d found their soulmate, losing a spouse counts as one of the worst days of your life. This is especially true for those who’d been with their significant others since they were teenagers.
The HuffPost reports Nigel and Phedre Fitton had known each other ever since the tender age of 16 and had been married for many decades after that. Phedre passed away at age 69 from cancer. This left a brokenhearted Nigel all alone.
After Phedre left him, Nigel was utterly destroyed. He just could not imagine his life moving forward.
However, shortly before she passed, Phedre asked her husband to do just one thing for her.
And since then, her faithful husband honored her wish, watering the bathroom plants every day so he wouldn’t let down his beloved.
The couple’s children would often think about their mom and what an incredible person she was. They remember how she had a wicked sense of humor and loved to prank any and everyone, especially her own family (more especially Nigel).
The couple’s daughters noticed how their dad would continuously water the bathroom plants, sometimes even to the point where water would spill from the pot and onto the bathroom floor. Nigel found it kind of odd, but he figured a promise was a promise.
And the fact that the plants remained as lush and green as ever inspired him to keep up his chores. He even felt a bit of accomplishment in keeping his wife’s plants looking so healthy.
So, when he decided it was time to move, five years after Phedre’s death, he, of course, brought her plants.
That’s when Nigel learned the truth.
The plants had been plastic the entire time!
Phedre had played one final prank on her husband from the grave! And, boy, was it a doozy!
Far from being upset, Nigel felt once again a special connection to his wife he never thought he would feel again in his lifetime. Her amazing sense of humor had left him with one final gift and another reason to cherish the memory of their incredible marriage.
