Have you ever had something you wanted to get rid of? Maybe it was a piece of furniture that was still in excellent condition, but you just don’t need it anymore. Perhaps you’ve replaced it with something new, or perhaps your family has simply outgrown it. It could be that you’re downsizing and moving to a new place and feel that it will be easier to buy new stuff than it would be to move whatever you already have. I’ve been in this situation. We had a lot of metal lying around our farm from old equipment and things like that. I knew that there are people out there in our community who collect scrap metal and sell it. I didn’t want to be bothered with it, but I was happy to unload it on someone else who would find value in it. This situation was a win/win for us. I got the junk removed from my yard, and the guy who removed it made a hundred bucks or so from it.
With that said, I’ve been on the other side of this situation, too. Occasionally when I’m browsing Craigslist or Facebook yard sale groups, I’ll see something free that I’m tempted to grab. I’ve also found stuff outside of people’s homes. Do you know how people will put stuff out on the curb when they don’t want it anymore? I’ve found some great treasures by picking up stuff that someone else didn’t want anymore. A working antique stereo, for one.
Well, recently, a person posted in Reddit that they had a sofa that they were willing to give away to someone for free. When people post things like this, there are usually some small stipulations. For example, maybe they want it picked up that day, or they’ll put something like “whoever messages me first gets it.” I mean, it’s a freebie, you know? So don’t look a gift horse in the mouth, as the old saying goes. However, the person who posted the sofa on Reddit encountered something unusual: an entitled person who seemed to think this free sofa came with extra benefits, like free delivery and cleaning. Read this shocking exchange below.
It seems that at first, the person giving aways the sofa thought the interested party was joking. However, the original poster quickly realized that this person was just an unbelievable freeloader. Here’s some free advice from a dedicated junk collector: if someone is giving something away for free, don’t complain and don’t make demands. Your text will likely be ignored.
