Recently, Michael Rossi and his wife decided to take their two kids on a family trip to Boston, which caused the children to miss three days of school. Upon returning from their trip, the school’s principal, Rochelle S. Barbury, sent the parents a terse and sharp letter. Apparently, she was none too pleased to learn about their family vacation.
In the letter, the principal writes:
She also warned if their children had too many absences, they might run afoul of the “compulsory school attendance law.”
Of course, Michael didn’t take this snide browbeating lying down! He decided to reply in his own way.
The dad posted the school official’s cold letter on his Facebook page along with a lengthy and powerful reply.
You see, the Rossi’s trip wasn’t just a “family vacation.” His children went to Boston to support their dad. At the same time, he ran this year’s annual Boston Marathon, an event that has significant historical and emotional significance as it was the scene of a horrific terrorist bombing in 2013 that killed three people and injured many others.
Rossi begins by saying:
The dad also explained how his kids took part in some educational activities, such as visiting the scene of the Boston Massacre and the Boston Tea Party. Since those were events their teachers would be covering in class, he said his children are now “ahead of the game.”
He also expressed gratitude to the school, ending his response by saying he “wouldn’t hesitate” to take them out of class in the future for an equally important, fulfilling, and beneficial experience.
