One of the things that all of us need in life is a friend. Some of us may have many friends or perhaps, they may be more like acquaintances. When we have a special friend in our life, however, they will be there for us through thick and thin in order to care for us in any way they possibly could. When we look at the picture below, we see just such a friendship in action. It is a young woman helping an elderly man at a hospital. You might first think that they are family but actually, it is police officer Dena Walker Pauly from Lawrenceville. She isn’t a relative, she is just a good person.
This Georgia police officer met Bob when a call came in for help from a pawnshop in the local area. She went to help Bob but in the end, he is the one that helped her. “The truth is that this woman is a police officer and she met Bob only two years ago while she was on duty. Lawrenceville Police Officer Dena Walker Pauly’s life was changed forever when she was dispatched to a local pawn shop, where staff were unsure how to help him.” The man was homeless and eventually he had a stroke that left him nonverbal.

Rather than just walking away from the situation when she met Bob that day, she decided to take things to another level. She started to teach Bob how to live life, such as how to throw garbage in the trash can rather than throwing it on the floor. She would check on him regularly and make sure that he had enough food to eat. She was also there to help him after his stroke and received power of attorney.
“Officer Pauly made the difficult decision to begin hospice care for Bob, so she held his hand and told him many times that she loved him. It’s quite possible she’s the first person to ever utter those words to this poor man.”
The department had a lot of good to say for this kind officer.
“Officer Pauly, your dedication and commitment to your oath of office, and fellow man, embodies what it means to be a Police Officer. Stories like this happen every day, but because they don’t fit a certain narrative, no one hears about it.”
Unfortunately, Bob passed away shortly after these pictures were taken.
“It is with a very heavy heart that we have to report that Bob passed away earlier today. While the end of one’s life is always sad, it is the love and compassion that he received from Officer Pauly that gives us a smile knowing he is now in a much better place!”

The police officer also responded to the comments from those who saw what took place on social media.
“Thank you all for the kind words during this difficult time. Thank you for praying for us. I spent a couple of hours with him today, singing and talking to him. He has started his journey Home and I am so excited for him!!! My friend is about to experience a happiness like never before.”

She even left the flowers on his favorite street corner.
“I had to pick up the flowers and other things from Bob’s memorial service. I thought, what better way to remember Bob than to leave a beautiful floral spread (sent by Tracy Evans Campbell) at Bob’s corner…. RIP my friend!!!!”
It’s not often that you hear of this level of kindness, but she did it in style.
