Most of us would consider 100 years old to be a rather long life. We realize that not everybody is going to reach it and when we do, we certainly have won the opportunity to tell other people about the secrets of longevity.
That was true in one family in Kansas, but it wasn’t just one person who had reached 100 years old, there were three sisters in the family who were all over 100. They were together to celebrate the 100th birthday party of the youngest sister in the family, and the other two sisters were 102 and 104.
When interviewing the women about what they had been through, they talked about the good old days and they also had some recommendations as to how it may be possible to also live a long life.
Perhaps it had something to do with the fact that they were raised on a farm in Kansas. They were always taking care of each other and they walked to school, a 2-mile trip, each and every day. Along the way, they would stop at a creek and grab some frogs to put in their pockets.
They had a lot of fun as children but they also had a lot of responsibility. Like many children in those days, they worked on the family farm and they even had the opportunity to ride the tractor at times. Their father didn’t have a modern tractor, they brought buckets of gas out into the field.
In the end, they had their chores to do but they always took everything in stride. Along with the chores, they also had to care for some of their pets, which included roosters and geese.
The food that they ate growing up was served from scratch. The mother would butcher hogs and they said they didn’t eat fancy, but they did eat good food.
One of the sisters said that the key to a long life is eating well. She also that she is sure to go on walks on a regular basis and she tries to be social with others.
Her sister said that faith is the most important thing and to be thankful to your parents and grandparents.
The sisters were close to each other when they were younger but after they got older and became widows, they got even closer together. They will get together every night to play cards and dominoes and they would support each other from day to day.
