In 2019, a teacher sparked controversy after she wrote in red ‘Absolutely Pathetic” on the test paper of one of her second-grade students. Since this time, there’s been a petition calling for her dismissal from the school. Chris Piland’s son Kamdyn was the unfortunate student to receive the insulting remarks on his math test. The father posted a picture of the math test on Facebook, slamming the Valley View Elementary School teacher for her treatment of his son.
The teacher was later identified as Alyssa Rupp Bohenek. The full message read, “Absolutely pathetic ” He answered 13 in 3 minutes! Sad.” She also included a frowny face next to her remarks.
The test comprised 60 subtraction problems, and students had to answer as many as they could within the span of three minutes.
Piland was angered and heartbroken when his son brought the test paper home.
When the father confronted Bohenek about her remarks, the teacher told him, “I’m sorry you feel this way.”
The father’s post soon gained traction, going viral on Facebook, and soon a petition began circulating calling for Bohenek’s immediate dismissal from the Valley View School District.
Within days the Change.org petition collected nearly 10,000 signatures.
Meanwhile, Rose Minniti, the school superintendent, said she learned of the questionable remark on a student’s test. The district had met with the teacher in question to investigate the situation further.
Bohenek has reportedly worked as a teacher at Valley View Elementary School since 2013.
