When people have family members who join the military, there are a lot of emotions involved. We miss them, and we also worry about them. For one young man named Sam, having his brother go off to serve in the Queen’s service is especially difficult. Sam has Down syndrome and his little brother, Jack, is a big part of his life. But duty calls, and Jack is serving his country and his queen. However, Sam is in for a treat, because he gets the opportunity to go watch his brother at work. In the introduction to the video below, Sam explains he’s going to Windsor Castle to see his younger brother, Jack, who is “busy guarding the Queen.”
The soldier who is walking with him explains that when he speaks to his brother, his brother won’t be able to speak back to him and he’ll be standing “very very still.” However, the soldier reassures him that when his brother is done working, he’ll come to talk to him and have a cup of tea. Sam then adorably asks his soldier escort if there are any “fighting battles” going on where he’s going to see his brother. The soldier, who we find out is Sgt. Baggot-Moore, says, “In here at the moment? I hope not.” Sam goes on to explain that his brother began his duty the year before, but this is the first time that Sam gets to “see him in action.”
To say the least, when Sam sees his brother, he is thoroughly impressed. Sgt. Baggot-Moore tells him he can go stand beside him for a photo, reminding Sam that his brother won’t be able to talk to him. Sam looks so dang proud of his brother. There’s a hilarious moment where Sam’s brother does a step that makes a loud noise and Sam literally jumps into the air. He has such a great sense of humor, though. He runs back to where Sgt. Baggot-Moore is standing and he laughs gamely. After watching his brother in the yard, Sam gets a brief tour of the place where the guardsmen live and sleep.
However, when Sam sees his brother at the end of the hallway, we get to see the real Sam. He yells, “Jack!” and starts running, jumping into his brother’s arms as he tells him “I miss you.” This is so touching and heartwarming. Enjoy this beautiful video.
