A long time ago, I worked for a year as an activity director in a retirement home that had all three levels of care: independent living, assisted living, and skilled nursing care. To be honest, it wasn’t really the ideal job for me because I’m an introverted person and that’s a job that requires you to constantly interact with other people. However, it was an extremely rewarding job and I’m glad I had that experience. I loved my old people and I think they liked me pretty well, too. I gained a new appreciation for life and I became acutely aware of a couple of things. First of all, life is short and we’re all going to be old someday if we live long enough. Everyone I worked with had once been youthful and vibrant. Another thing I learned is that old people are really cool. They usually are past the point in their lives of caring what people think and I love that about them. Enjoy this hilarious joke below.
One evening a family brings their frail, elderly mother to a nursing home and leaves her, hoping she will be well cared for.
The next morning, the nurses bathe her, feed her a tasty breakfast, and set her in a chair at a window overlooking a lovely flower garden.
She seems OK, but after a while, she slowly starts to fall over sideways in her chair. Two attentive nurses immediately rush up to catch her and straighten her up.
Again she seems OK, but after a while, she starts to tilt to the other side. The nurses rush back and once more bring her back upright.
This goes on all morning. Later the family arrives to see how the old woman is adjusting to her new home.
“So Ma, how is it here? Are they treating you all right?” they ask.
“It’s pretty nice,” she replies. “Except they won’t let you fart”
