Jimmy Fallon of “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” is one funny and talented dude. He’s funny, he sings, he dances, and he can even make us laugh with his theatrical lip-synching when he does his popular “Lip Sync Battle” skit. Jimmy has been entertaining television audiences since he was 23 years old and he was hired by “Saturday Night Live,” a dream job for him. Since he was a teenager, Jimmy had been obsessed with being on “Saturday Night Live,” and devoted his life to studying the show extensively so that he could be on it one day. He watched it religiously, and he and his mother, Gloria, would re-enact many of the sketches. He was also musically talented and began playing the guitar when he was 13 years old.
When he started working in comedy, he landed an agent, but he made sure they included a clause in his contract that specified that his priority was “Saturday Night Live.” When he was 23 years old, he got his chance. Tina Fey, the head writer at the time, later said that Jimmy was one of two people who were completely prepared for “Saturday Night Live” and that she’s never seen anyone but him and one other person be that prepared. She added that it was as if he could walk on stage and perform that night if he needed to. He rushed through his skits to get to his musical impressions because he knew those were his strongest areas. After three weeks, he was certain he didn’t get the position. However, he was finally asked to join the show. Jimmy said it felt like he was in “slow motion,” and told the show’s creator, Lorne Michaels, that “I’m going to make you proud.” He did indeed.
In the video below, Jimmy and comedian and actress Melissa McCarthy get ready to do the Lip Sync Battle. Jimmy’s first song is a song about roller skating and falling and love by Melanie, “Brand New Key.” Jimmy nails it, of course, even doing a skating motion with his legs and feet and pretending to be wobbly on his “skates.” When it’s Melissa’s turn, she gears up to lip-sync her own song, putting on a black cowboy cap and she starts lip-synching a rap song. Here’s the truth: she didn’t do as well as Jimmy with that song. However, Jimmy does what he does best: gives his guest the credit for being better. Jimmy’s ready to bring his A-game with the next song, lip-synching ZAYN’s “Pillowtalk,” even getting down on the floor with a pillow and writing around.
When he’s done, he keeps saying, “I love you ZAYN” and “I got ZAYN on the brain!” Next up is Melissa again. She puts on a pair of safety goggles as she gets ready to sing “Colors of the Wind” from the “Pocahontas” soundtrack. As she sings, leaves fly around here and a forest backdrop drops down. A turkey (or some weird bird) falls down from the sky and she catches it with one hand. She even catches a flying wolf. Then things get really crazy as glitter goes flying everywhere, and that explains why she put on those safety goggles. This is one talented and creative lady. It seems like there’s no one who dislikes Melissa McCarthy. And Jimmy Fallon does everything well. These two comedic folks are some of the best in the business. Enjoy this awesome video.
