It is always a bad idea to steal something but there are some people who try to get away with it. Perhaps they go into Best Buy in order to take a laptop and run with it. That is what happened in the following story but the person running got more than what they bargained for. I’m sure they thought they would get away with it without any problem. It’s common knowledge that employees are not supposed to chase after someone who steals something. Little did he realize that he would run into some Marines and his life would go downhill from there.
AUGUSTA, Ga. – A U.S. Marine reservist collecting toys for children was stabbed when he helped stop a suspected shoplifter in eastern Georgia.
Best Buy sales manager Orvin Smith told The Augusta Chronicle that the man was seen on surveillance cameras Friday putting a laptop under his jacket at the Augusta store.
When confronted, the man became irate, knocked down an employee, pulled a knife and ran toward the door. Outside were four Marines collecting toys for the service branch’s “Toys For Tots” program.
Smith said the Marines stopped the man, but he stabbed one of them, Cpl. Phillip Duggan, in the back. The cut did not appear to be severe.
“The subject was also transported to the local hospital with tow broken arms, a broken ankle, a broken leg, several missing teeth, possible broken ribs, multiple contusions, assorted lacerations, a broken nose and a broken jaw injuries he sustained when he slipped and fell off the curb after stabbing the marine, according to the police report.
The suspect, whose name was not released, was held until police arrived. The Richmond County Sheriff’s office said it is investigating.
