Exercising our bodies is very important; however, sometimes we forget how invaluable it is to also exercise that muscle upstairs. You know the one between your ears. Our brains are a lot like the muscles in our bodies (although brains are not anatomically considered “muscles”). You see, they need interesting problems to solve so that our minds can stay sharp and prepared to solve many of the problems life throws our way. Puzzle-solving actually teaches us how to think about problems in new ways. By stretching how we think about solving problems, we can find it easier to think “outside the box” to find solutions that may not have ever occurred to us before.
For example, consider the following riddle. For many generations, it has haunted the minds of some of the best and brightest. And while technically, you can find a few different answers, there’s really only one that makes real sense. See if you can find it.
