Bruno Mars is a legendary and talented artist and one of the most successful musicians of his generation. “Uptown Funk” was written by Bruno Mars and Mark Ronson from Ronson’s fourth studio album, which featured Bruno. Released as the album’s lead single in 2014, the song began during a freestyle studio session where the group worked on a jam Bruno and his band had been playing on tour. “Uptown Funk” topped the charts in 19 countries, and also reached the top 10 of 15 countries, and this makes it both Bruno’s and Mark Ronson’s most successful single to date. In the U.S., the song stayed in the number one spot on the Billboard Hot 100 list for 14 weeks and then spent seven weeks in the number one slot in the U.K. on their singles chart.
“Uptown Funk” was certified 11 times platinum by the RIAA and four times platinum by the BPI, the British Phonographic Industry. It also broke the streaming record in the U.S. and worldwide. For the video, Bruno and director Cameron Duddy shot it showing Bruno, Monson, and The HOoligans walking, singing, and dancing on a city street. It’s so popular that as of March 2020, the video for “Uptown Funk” is the sixth most viewed video of all time on YouTube and has had more than 3.8 billion views. The song has been performed on TV shows like “Saturday Night Live” and at the Super Bowl halftime show.
