When it comes to accomplishments, Oscar-winning actress Dame Judith Olivia Dench has plenty of them. But we can now add to her list that she is the oldest actor or model to ever grace the cover of the British Vogue magazine. At age 85, the legendary actress is radiant and exquisite. Appearing on the iconic magazine’s June 2020 issue, Judi was photographed in March for the magazine’s cover just before a lockdown was introduced in the United Kingdom due to the coronavirus pandemic. Judi herself noted that “I am sure I feel like everyone else, such unprecedented times are quite hard to comprehend,” voicing what many of her fellow citizens are feeling right now.
In an Instagram post, Judi was hailed by Vogue editor-in-chief Edward Enninful as “one of the nation’s most beloved citizens.” He added that Dench is the “unassailable queen of stage and screen,” and that he “can’t tell you how pleased I am.” Dench told Giles Hattersley that retirement is out of the question for her and that she has an “enduring love of champagne” (don’t we all!). Quarantined at her ancient home in the English countryside (it was built in 1690), Judi sends a message of hope, Enninful says. He adds that in these uncertain times, Judi is “comfort personified” and “one of the most celebrated actors of a generation.”

Enninful calls Judi a “national treasure,” and points out that she’s still a “firm fixture” as an A-list actress in Hollywood. This in itself is rare, and only a few actresses have been able to maintain A-list status into their ninth decades. Even better, Judi is a person who is committed to aging gracefully, also rare in her industry. She’s obviously doing it very well. The comments say that Judi shows the “best evolution of fashion excellence.”
