I grew up in a rural area of Arkansas, and we lived in the “town,” not on a farm. However, my aunt had a working farm and I loved going out there to spend time with her. There was always some adventure going on with the animals, hauling hay, and I especially loved helping her in the garden. One time, I even drank milk directly from a cow’s teat. My cousin squeezed it and squirted it in my mouth. I’ll never forget the warm, sweet taste of it. And the baby calves were always the cutest of all. They’re so much more playful and curious than people realize. People living on farms aren’t surprised very often, so when Deb and Chuck Beldo’s cow delivered something unexpected, it was a unique experience indeed.
Living in Minnesota on their working farm, the Beldos raise their own animals and get to enjoy all of the adventures that farm life has to offer. One of the most rewarding things for cattle farmers is to watch the animals being born. The miracle of giving life is extraordinary, whether it’s a human being or another creature. When their cow Momma Moo was ready to give birth, there were there to welcome the new calf into the world and give it lots of loving TLC. However, what happened was something so unexpected that it shocked the Beldo family and made it into the history books.
When Momma Moo’s pregnancy progressed, they noticed that she was getting bigger than most of their cows get when they’re pregnant, and Deb said that they noticed that Momma Moo was large but they didn’t think a lot about it. She explained that twins are not uncommon at all. But when Momma Moo began giving birth, the family was shocked at what happened. As the second baby calf came out, they realized another was coming. And after that one, another one was delivered. That’s right, Momma Moo had quadruplets. Experts say that the odds of a cow giving birth to quadruplets are one in 11.2 million.
The Beldos have been farming since 1882 and they’ve lived on this farm for generations. They’ve never seen anything like this or heard about this in previous generations of cattle on the family’s farm. Watch this amazing video below.
