When it comes to celebrity couples, some stand the test of time and others fall short of the mark. The same can also be said for anyone in a relationship but when a celebrity couple decides to divorce, it is a very public event.
Kelly Clarkson is living proof of just how messing things can be. After divorcing Brandon Blackstock, the father of two children with Clarkson, he started making demands of his wealthy ex-wife.
For one thing, he was awarded $200k in monthly alimony and child support. He even went back trying to get more. Even though he doesn’t have sole custody of the children, he was given that large figure.
Brandon also seems to have been enjoying living on their $10.4 million dollar ranch and was hoping to continue living there for the unforeseeable future. That was not permitted, as a judge ruled that he didn’t have a part in the ranch and would soon need to leave.
It seems as if Kelly had purchased the ranch on her own so, even though he argued that it was marital property, the judge saw it otherwise.
Along with fighting for the ranch, he also was contesting the prenup. It really seemed as if he was trying to get every penny he could from Clarkson, who has been busy working on various projects.
Virtual hearings were held for the divorce and it was decided that any property acquired during the marriage would fall under the premarital agreement. Brandon fought back, trying to grab everything he could without worrying about his relationship with Clarkson or the kids.
According to court documents: “The Court further finds that the Montana Ranch and the other two Montana properties are not titled in both of the Parties’ names either as joint tenants with right of survivorship or as tenants by the entireties, as required under the PMA to create marital property. The Court therefore rejects Respondent’s [Blackstock’s] position that the Montana Ranch and other Montana properties are marital property owned 50/50 by the Parties.”
Primary custody of the children, River Rose, 7, and Remington Alexander, 5, belongs to Clarkson.
