Eli Thompson entered this world on a late afternoon in March as a perfectly healthy baby boy with only one feature that made him different from others — he didn’t have a nose.
McGlathery said that her doctor sat down beside her bed and explained the situation concerning her son’s appearance.
While her baby did not display any other signs of abnormalities, McGlather said that she was first upset and shocked when Dr. R. Craig Brown shared the news.
Her obstetrician said that based on his research, he could only find 38 other cases in which there was nothing wrong with a child other than their missing nose.
McGlathery started seeing Brown as a patient early on in her pregnancy.
The doctor noted that the 23-year-old woman never displayed any high-risk markers, and tests showed that baby Eli had a nasal bone.
Because the little boy was born without a nose, he used a tracheostomy tube to assist his breathing.
Meanwhile, the mom said that she and her family were all trained in helping control her son’s equipment, and they all underwent CPR training.
Later that month, McGlathery finally brought little Eli home, and she says he’s been thriving ever since.
She says he’s just like any other healthy, happy child.
