If there’s one thing 2020 has reminded us of during this pandemic is the importance of friends and family in our lives. Before all of this, it was so easy to get caught up in millions of outside distractions, from politics to celebrity scandals. Shoot, some folks are even disconnecting from reality altogether, strapping on $500 googles to enjoy someone else’s designer reality for a few hours. However, millions of folks who haven’t seen or touched their loved ones in months understand that none of that stuff matters more than those connections. And if there’s one song that really captures the spirit of how important those people are in our lives, it’s Neil Diamond’s “Christmas Prayer.”
In one passage from the song, Diamond sing:
“You’re in my Christmas prayers and in my Christmas dreams. In every Christmas story told, in every song I sing. When I hear people laugh and I see children play reminds me of that photograph of us on Christmas day. I see you standing there smiling down on me as I untie the gifts that lie beneath our Christmas tree and every Christmas day.”
In the video, Diamond is in his studio surrounded by his loved ones and beautiful Christmas decorations.
His talented band provides just the right back up to allow this legend’s distinctive voice to shine.
“Grandma’s, Grandpa’s, Father’s, Mother’s, Friend’s I’ve loved dear Sister’s, Brother’s, Son’s and daughter’s, I once played with; Aunt’s and Uncle’s I once stayed with their story will be told. As long as love recalls those loved one’s smiling down on me. The greatest gift of all will be forever there. It’s Christmas up in Heaven, too, with love beyond compare.”
This song comes from Neil Diamond’s 2016 album titled “Acoustic Christmas,” which is described in the caption for the video as paying “tribute to the loved ones that may no longer be with us this holiday season but are always in our thoughts.”
