People are born knowing how to dance. Now, when I say knowing how to dance, that doesn’t mean everyone is born knowing how to dance well. Not by a longshot. However, the desire to get down and boogy and move to the beat of the music is innate, and it’s easy to see that when you play music around babies and toddlers. Instinctively, they start moving and bopping in any way they can. Dancing is fun and joyful, and it just feels good. Even folks like me who don’t dare dance in public dance around in our homes privately. A little boy named William Stokkebroe has captured the attention of the world with his amazing dance to what is apparently one of his favorite Elvis Presley songs: “Jailhouse Rock.”
William isn’t new to dancing. His parents were professional dancers, so he’s been exposed to dancing for all of his young life. He’s only two years old and already doing a bold dance called the Paso Doble. The Paso Doble isn’t for the faint of heart. It’s a dramatic dance style that originated in Spain and it’s usually set to the kind of music that introduces a bullfighter’s entrance to the bullfighting ring. So you can imagine that if this little guy can do the Paso Doble, he’s not new to dancing. This is a very theatrical dance style and William is ready for it and rearing to go. It’s nearly certain that not only has he seen this dance performed in performances, but also in his family’s home.
The Danish boy is the child of Kristina and Peter Stokkebroe, who were members of a professional Danish dance troupe. They were active as professional dancers for ten years and have since retired from the world of professional dance. They performed in competitions all over the world, everywhere from the United States to Canada, Spain, Ireland, and of course, in their native Denmark and several other countries. However, they certainly still enjoy it as amateurs. They also spend some time teaching dance. One dance they frequently performed was “The Jive.”
In the video below, you can watch Kristina and Peter’s little boy doing his own version of “The Jive,” set to Elvis Presley’s “Jailhouse Rock.” I think this little fellow has a bright future ahead of him. He has all the moves.
