Remember the old adage that says, “Out of the mouths of babes”? This is an expression that was first found in the Bible and refers to the way kids can state something in a totally innocent way that adults can’t seem to articulate quite as well. Sometimes, it’s simply a matter of kids being able to see things more clearly than adults can. When you’re close to the situation, lines can get blurry, and when we’re older, this is prone to happen because of our “extensive” experience. However, kids have a way of cutting through all of the noise that we as adults can’t see through. In many cases, kids can see more clearly than adults can.
In the joke below, this is made evident. A little girl is sitting in a classroom and her teacher is trying to convince the class that God doesn’t exist by teaching them about evolution. However, something doesn’t sit quite right with the little girl and the exchange between her and the teacher is hilarious. Enjoy this hilarious joke, which perfectly illustrates the innocent of children.
The teacher asked a little boy:
TEACHER: Tommy, do you see the tree outside?
TOMMY: Yes.
TEACHER: Tommy, do you see the grass outside?
TOMMY: Yes.
TEACHER: Go outside and look up and see if you can see the sky.
TOMMY: Okay. (He returned a minute later) Yes, I saw the sky.
TEACHER: Did you see God?
TOMMY: No.
TEACHER: That’s my point. We can’t see God because he isn’t there. He doesn’t exist.
A little girl spoke up and wanted to ask the boy some questions. The teacher agreed, and the little girl asked the boy:
LITTLE GIRL: Tommy, do you see the tree outside?
TOMMY: Yes.
LITTLE GIRL: Tommy, do you see the grass outside?
TOMMY: Yesssssssss (getting tired of the questions by this time).
LITTLE GIRL: Did you see the sky?
TOMMY: Yessssssssss.
LITTLE GIRL: Tommy, do you see the teacher?
TOMMY: Yes.
LITTLE GIRL: Do you see her brain?
TOMMY: No.
LITTLE GIRL: Then, according to what we were taught in the school today…she must not have one!!
