I have such a soft spot in my heart for nuns. Perhaps I’ve seen too many feel-good movies and TV shows that start these beloved ladies. I binge-watched the British TV show “Call the Midwife,” which features an order of nuns who are dedicated to delivering babies in a poor part of London in the mid-20th century. And “The Sound of Music” is one of my all-time favorite musicals. That iconic movie features an order of nuns who has a hard time keeping control of one mischievous and lively young nun, and she eventually leaves the order to marry a handsome seafaring captain and becomes stepmother to his large brood of children. Both of these shows are based on a true story, and in short, most nuns are just amazing people. Truly devout people, from all that I’ve ever heard. This story has been making the rounds on the internet again, and it’s too good to not pass along, especially as a hot summer looms upon us. We’re not sure if the story that comes along with the photo is actually a true story, but the image sure is real (and we love it). Enjoy this classic!
Sisters Mary Catherine, Maria Theresa, Katherine Marie, Rose Frances, and Mary Kathleen left the convent on a trip to St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York City and were sight-seeing on a Tuesday in July.
It was hot and humid in town and their traditional garb was making them so uncomfortable, they decided to stop in at Patty McGuire’s Pub for a cold soft drink.
Patty had recently added special legs to his barstools, which were the talk of the fashionable eastside neighborhood. All 5 nuns sat up at the bar and were enjoying their Cokes when Monsignore Riley and Father McGinty entered the bar through the front door.
They, too, came for a cold drink. They were shocked and almost fainted at what they saw.
