Unfortunately, even the most well-cared-for pets rarely live as long as people do. If you have a beloved cat who lives to be 15 years old, that’s considered to be a very old cat indeed. Domesticated cats can enjoy a life expectancy of between 13 and 17 years at best. Cats who live in the wild have even shorter lives, as you can imagine, living for only two to six years. It’s a tough life out there. As pet parents, we live in dread for the day that our pets will no longer be with us and it’s a sad inevitability. The death of a beloved pet can be devastating for people of any age. With that said, there are some lucky individuals who have had their beloved pets with them for record numbers of years.
A cat named Rubble is believed to be the world’s oldest living cat and he has just celebrated his 32nd birthday. Although Rubble isn’t the only cat in the world to have lived past the age of 30, he’s the oldest currently living as far as anyone knows. Before Rubble, some cats who held the purported records were Scooter, Whiskey, and Nutmeg. All are on record for living lives that were double their expected lifespans. A cat named Creme Puff holds the record as being the oldest cat who has ever lived, and she passed away at the grand old age of 38. Rubble is a beautiful big boy and is from the breed of Maine Coon. He was born in 1988.

Rubble enjoys the easy life with his mom Michelle Foster, who first met Rubble when she had just turned 20 years old. A friend of her sister had a litter of kittens and she was able to choose the one she wanted. Rubble was one o0f them and it was love at first sight. Michelle had been living all on her own and was experiencing loneliness. No doubt Rubble gave her a lot of comfort and they have been friends for three decades now.

Michelle did an interview with Bored Panda when Rubble turned 30, and she said, “If you care about something and someone and really love them, that goes a long way. I have always treated him like a child… If you care about something, no matter what it is, it does last.”

As a birthday gift, Rubble’s veterinarian gave him a month of free medications, but otherwise, Michelle said the birthday festivities will be low-key. According to Michelle, Rubble has gotten old and wouldn’t enjoy too much attention and certainly wouldn’t want to be hassled. She said that they just want Rubble to be left to live out his old age in peace.
